Ice Opti fun regatta called on for Saturday

We went out early this morning and found good ice for us to commence our sailing season for the GLIYC. There is a good size sheet of ice to sail with thickness of 3.5 to 5 inches. Most of it is 5 inch thick snow ice with a slight pebble to it in places. This is good ice to teach on for sure. I would say anything bigger then a Nite is too big a boat to bring out due to loading and launching at the ramp. But for the rest of us this should be great.

The club plans to start setting up boats I would assume the next couple of days launching out of the Sunnyside boat launch. Please respect local neighbors with launching and vehicles and use caution if you sail past the middle of the inlet and up by the bridge. There is open water next to the bridge. Remember use caution at all times.

The plan is to start on Saturday at 11:00 with some basic boat handling skills and safety drills for all involved. Remember bring a helmet, creepers, ice picks and life jacket, also dress for the cold. We will be down there all day, with food fun and support.

Remember this is all about having fun and enjoying the great outdoors. We hope to see you there.
