What a great meeting

Usually business meetings or kickoff meetings are pretty drab boring affairs. Well this one was pretty exciting and should hopefully set the tone for the 2011-12 season. There are a lot of new exciting things happening with the GLIYC.

First we have to thank Dan and Maureen for the generous donation of a four wheeler for the club. I took a look at it last week and it is for sure a gucci-ed up unit and will sure help the club with club racing, ice scouting and regatta hosting. We really needed one of these and this was a huge gift.

Second the club is again embarking on Tuesday work nights like we have the past two winters. The project of choice is to build between 3-5 ice opti's for the coming season. We have a lot of local interest in the surrounding communities from Boy Scouts troops and schools to get children more involved in the community and local projects. This could be a great community program for all involved.

We now have a new chairman of ice checking for the club, this person is Todd Morgan. The Morgan family has a long history of iceboating and Todd is a welcome addition to the club leadership. The goal for this position is to make it easier for all club members to know up to date ice conditions for our surrounding lakes. Hopefully the end goal is to keep club activities on the ice more unified and easier for people to find out what is going on where.

On the party front there are two new social chairs for this year, Maureen and Mimi will be handling the parties and socials for this season. The parties should be even better this coming season. We will have to see what they have planned.

There were two board members that were leaving due to their terms being up and that is Tim and also Drew, we thank both of them for all the work they have done over the past few years. We now welcome in two new members Nolan and Todd which we look forward to having on the board.

It sure looks like an exciting season coming up and we look forward to getting out on the ice.
